Memorial Day Snapshots

So I was a little late in getting my camera out for pictures, but here is a very small sampling of our Memorial Day spent at the cabin -

The Bohn Jr. Family on the big rock

Berlynn and Grandma

We had some fine entertainment from the younger generation - very talented young ones, here is Sadie and Stan Porter's grandson (I think his name was Braden, but I'm not sure). Berlynn doing some break dancing - See how entertained Easton and Berlynn are (sitting on Grandpa's new bench)

Kathy had to get in on the entertaining as well, here she is teaching the kids how to stick their heads in a little skunks hole (don't worry, she wasn't as entertaining as they were, so they didn't pay that much attention to her)!
However, here she is now, teaching them all how to squish bumble bees in their hands!
Here are my good looking kids (actually, I just LOVE seeing Jamie wear the "Y" - SWEET!)
Ma & Pa Moosman, oh wait, I mean Steven and Wendy - THANKS for the yummy lunch (and Dad & Mom for breakfast)
Peter and his fake hot dogs
Here's Ma and Pa Moosman

Karen, because I am SUCH a good sister, I have a couple of pictures I took JUST FOR YOU. Here is Steven and his refurbished motorcycle (notice everything, the rims, spokes, gas tank and the nifty rhino liner where the kick starter goes, etc.) - he has worked so hard on this bike and it is beautiful (plus, it's BLUE!)
Now, on to our sister Kathy's talent's, here are some of her pots
And here is her beautiful mirror
THANKS Dad & Mom for having us all to the cabin, to those who brought the yummy food, good entertainment and for being our family.

Happy Birthday Berlynn!

This is our oldest grandchild, Berlynn Gracie, and she is 5 years old today! We well remember the day of her birth and how very excited we were to finally welcome a healthy, happy baby girl into our family. In recognition of this great day, here are 5 things we especially LOVE about Berlynn -

1. She loves life and is (almost) always happy with a smile on her beautiful face
2. She loves to play princess, barbie and faries
3. She is a very good helper, and loves her family
4. She is excited to start Kindergarten in the fall
5. She is a great friend, is sensitive to others feelings and always full of encouragement (rare at such a young age!)

Best of all, she's ours and we love her very much. We hope you have an extra special day today sweetie!

So long 6435 Lawnton Street!

Before we left town, for what I believe may be our last visit to Philadelphia, we just had to stop and say "Good-bye" to the kids' home. Oh, what memories I have of their beautiful, comfortable home on Lawnton Street. I remember 4 years ago when they moved in, all the hard work that went into making this house their home - ripping up the carpets, restoring the original hardwood floors, painting and painting in that awful heat (and humidity), electrical, baseboards and even painting the little white picket gate! Each visit brought new surprizes with upgrades, the birth of our grandson, converting the basement into the cutest Preschool, yard work, tile work - never ending, but always improving. I loved that house, but perhaps what I loved more were the people who lived there - how loving, inviting and accepting they always were. How each and every time we would visit, we were made to feel like the most important people ever - gracious hosts with a good bye kiss and hug to "come back soon!" I'm going to miss 6435 Lawnton Street, but will look forward to their new home (CLOSER!), and more frequent visits. Thank you Brandon, Jamie, Berlynn and Ezra for sharing your lives (and love) with us!

Now a taste of Philly -

Oh no - Ezra is NOT impressed with all the luggage - and is wondering what is in store for him!

Waiting on the curb - for the rental car

First stop - more food (of course) to famous Tony Luke's for our last Philly Cheese Steak sandwich Later that night - S'mores for desert (first you take the graham, then you take the mallow....)

A very full and satisfied Berlynn -

Breakfast and last time at the Reading Terminal Market - the Amish satisfied our hunger. Honestly people, look closely at my face. I am NEVER going to show a look of shock or amazement ever, ever again!

A Little Taste of New York

This post should probably really be named "Diners, Drive Ins, Dives, or Graizing our way through New York!" Thought we'd share a litte taste of what we have been experiencing here in our brief stay in New York. Lucky for us, we've seen all of the touristy places so this time, we came for the.... a.... taste of it, well, sort of. Here is just a small sample -

One of our first stops was the Carnegie Deli, where we "split" this open faced Reuben. This is what you call a $35.00 New York Sandwich! It was OUTSTANDING!

We made our way downtown to search out the famous Peanut Butter & Company shop. They sell everything peanut butter (duh) and we helped ourselves to a piece of rich peanut butter pie.

Another place we had to check out was Magnolia's Bakery - oh my, just walking in to that place sent the taste buds into orbit. We had it on the best authority (Berlynn, to be exact) that we had to try the Red Velvet cupcake, and we weren't disappointed!

The last picture we have (but certainly not the last place we ate), is Nathan's on Coney Island. Awh, the dogs were worth the hour long subway ride out of the city, they were crisp, hot and delicious. Nathan's is kind enough to post the calories of EVERYTHING they serve there, how thoughtful. Curt had a regular plus chili dog (not so impressed with the chili).

I am a real fan of corn dogs - but thanks to the aforementioned calorie counter, I changed my mind and stuck with the hotdog & bun. It was worth the trip.

We have also enjoyed an "authentic" New York white pizza pie. Baked in a coal fired oven, thin crispy crust with fresh moz. cheese and fresh basil (YES, there IS a huge taste difference). Ellen's Starlight Diner where Curt wowed the people by getting up and dancing - he recommends the Blue Plate Meatloaf Special (comfort food).
We are having a ball, eating along the way - New York has a great sampling of almost every kind of food (minus Mexican) you could dream of. Lest you thing ALL we are doing is eating - you're wrong, we are seeing, experiencing and really enjoying our New York trip! Now - we're graizing our way to Philidelphia and Brandon's graduation!

A quick trip

Here I am in front of the Manhatten LDS Temple, it was very beautiful -

Outside Central Park -

Our hotel was across the street from Carnegie Hall

Wonderful down-town New York

The USS Intrepid

Curt - being a veteran, got in free. They had restored this air craft carrier since the last time we had visited and we wanted to come back to see -

The Concord Jet - always wanted to fly on this, but never did!

The dentist's chair the sailors had to use while on the Intrepid -

Of all the places to be seated at the Carnegie Deli - when I turned around, who's picture was right there but Uncle Orrin's, before he became a flaming liberal!

Busy building site at the World Trade Center Site-

On the boardwalk - Coney Island

A visit to the Guggenheim

Armani store on famous 5th Avenue - where we bought Curt a new suit (NOT!)

The gardens at Trump Towers (where the Apprentices' live) - they never show the trees and I thought they were really neat. I wonder how big they'll let these trees grow before the roots break through ceilings, walls, etc. or just simply blow over and break all the windows!

On to PHILLY!
